Album

Mercy, Mercy, Mercy Live at The Club is a 1966 album by jazz musician Julian Cannonball Adderley. It received the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Jazz Performance Group or Soloist with Group in 1967. Though the original liner notes state that it was recorded at the Club DeLisa in Chicago, it was actually recorded at Capitol's Hollywood studio with an invited audience and an open bar. The reason for this discrepancy, according to the liner notes in the CD reissue, is that Adderley and the new. Cannonball Adderley's most popular album, Mercy, Mercy, Mercy wasn't actually recorded Live at 'The Club', as its subtitle says. The hoax was meant to publicize a friend's nightclub venture in Chicago, but Adderley actually recorded the album in Los Angeles, where producer David Axelrod set up a club in the Capitol studios and furnished free drinks to an invitation-only audience. Naturally, the crowd is in an extremely good mood, and Adderley's quintet, feeding off the energy in the room, gives them something to shout about. Album 1966 6 Songs. Mercy, Mercy, Mercy Live. I have long questioned the ethics of pretending this recording was made Live at The Club in Chicago when it was actually recorded before an invited audience in a recording studio in Los Angeles but, what the hell, it certainly WORKS Read more. 2 people found this helpful. Mercy, Mercy, Mercy is a live album that captures Cannonball seven years on from the triumph of Kind Of Blue, by which time he was 38 years old and a noted bandleader in his own right. Importantly, he had also found his niche as a purveyor of a popular style called soul jazz, a more accessible variant of bebop that dug deep into gospel and blues styles. Cannonball had, in fact, recorded live at The Club in March 66, and though that performance had been slated for release, it didnt come out at the time it eventually surfaced in 2005, 30 years after the saxophonists death, as the album Money In The Pocket.
